AESCULAPIUS IN THE BUSH
Kanmare's Spirit
The serpent of life is a common symbol in many cultures, originating thousands of years ago, and is found in mythologies across the globe.
In some Australian Tribes they tell tales of great serpents like Yurlunggar the Rainbow Snake, and Kanmare the Carpet Snake. They are providers of water and health in the bush and outback, and are tied to the spirit of the land. These mythologies share similarities to Western tales about the god Aesculapius, who also represents healing and medicine and is accompanied by images of a snake.
