EARTHLY COMPANIONS
The garden is the threshold between home and nature, and the lines between the two give and take. The environment is a living system of organisms. The plants may attract insects, which may attract predators. Moles hunt the nematodes, and cats hunt the moles.

Wildlife and agriculture must coexist, whether we want it or not. Seeds and sprouts, disturbed by the foraging of nuts by bushy-tailed neighbors. Whiteflys revolve around brassicas like satellites in orbit, their young devouring the leaves. The white-tail deer, cannot help but sample the buffet of a home garden.
To be given the gifts of the earth demand sacrifice, or a tithing. Not all the yields of the field belong to us.
